Liberty Bridge Jump-Off
SynTerra sponsors street festivities and high-flying competition.
Posted July 2, 2019:
SynTerra again is a proud sponsor of the Liberty Bridge Jump-Off, set for this Saturday (July 6) at 550 South Main Street in downtown Greenville.
In just three short years, the event has become a popular summer tradition. From 10,000 to 13,000 fans and revelers are expected. There’ll be a full day of family-oriented fun, including music, food, and amateur contests. Then, a who’s who of elite pole vaulters — including Olympic silver medalist and world indoor champion Sandi Morris of Greenville — will compete from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be women’s and men’s competitions. The music and party will kick back up immediately afterward, with dancing in the street until 10 p.m.
The street venue, unique in the track and field world, gives attendees up-close access to the athletes and an eye-popping perspective of how high the vaulters soar — some almost 20 feet before releasing the pole and falling to the cushioned landing pad. Onlookers will pay particular attention to local hero Morris, who captured a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and finished first at the 2018 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England.
If the first two years were any indication, this year’s event will live up to its billing as downtown Greenville’s Party on the Street. The event actually kicks off Friday at Fleet Feet Greenville with a 6-7 p.m. press conference open to the public. Festivities crank up Saturday morning, and there won’t be any letup. The family-focused activities will include: a fun run, kids’ stick jumping, live music, local vendors, food trucks, beverages, music, and more.
